The extra money will pay for more pavement and carriageway repairs, extra cycle routes, more safer routes to schools projects and the introduction of new 20mph zones across the borough.

It will also fund additional improvements to the borough’s riverside walkway, better street lighting, enhancements to local bus services and far-reaching improvements to Battersea Park rail station.

The £17m is part of a wider package of additional capital investments worth £70m that has now been approved for the period between now and the end of March 2017.

This brings the total capital spending on improving the borough’s infrastructure across all areas and all services to around £200m for the three year period ending March 2017.

Travel and transport projects that have now been added to the wider capital programme include:

• Battersea Park Station improvements - £5.46m
• Funding to improve local bus services - £650,000.
• Improving the riverside walk - £1m.   
• Cycle route upgrades - £286,000.
• Introducing 20mph zones - £190,000
• Providing safer routes to school + other road safety priorities - £190,000
• Installing LED street lights - £400,000.
• Repairing pavements and road surfaces - £3.4m
• Improving traffic flows through the Wandsworth one way system - £1.5m.

Most of the funding for these projects will come from grants provided by the government and also Transport for London, as well as local infrastructure payments from developers.
