British Transport Police have launched an investigation after a woman received racial abuse from a group of men on board a train on Thursday, 31 January.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses of the incident, which took place on the 5.51pm Clapham Junction to Shepperton train, to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Tony Burman, the investigating officer, said: “A group of five or six men, who were also accompanied by two large dogs, began using derogatory and foul language towards a woman who was travelling on the train.

“The men, who are described as being between 40 and 50 years old, left the train at Fulwell station and made their way out of the station.”

Officers are currently making local enquiries, including looking at CCTV footage from the station and the surrounding area.DS Burman continued: “The victim has been left very upset by what took place and I am now appealing for anyone with information to come forward with information that may help with our investigation. “BTP do not tolerate this kind of behaviour on the rail network and take reports of racial abuse extremely seriously.
