Boris Johnson given power to charge utility companies that dig up roads

Dear Editor,

It is great news that as a result of lobbying from City Hall, and myself as an Assembly Member, the Mayor has now been given the power to charge utility companies that dig up roads in the capital.

The decision to grant this authority, taken by the Department of Transport, will mean that Boris Johnson will beable to charge £2,500 a day to companies that decide to dig up important roads during busy periods. This new scheme will minimise the level of disruption to London's arteries when roadworks are in place, which are often a nightmare for drivers and bus users.
Regards
