Council encourages residents to recycle and use their 'golden tickets'
Make sure you recycle everything you can over Christmas for a chance to win £5k in the Golden Ticket prize draw.
There will be three more draws before the end of March, so there’s still plenty of time to try and nab the cash prize.
The Golden Ticket competition is being run by the Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA). WRWA is responsible for waste disposal and sorting the mixed recycling collected across the London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
WRWA has been awarded a government grant for the competition to help give residents of the four boroughs extra motivation to recycle more - and recycle correctly.
As well as the top prize, each winner can nominate up to five local groups that have registered in advance to share a £2,500 Community Reward.
Wandsworth has welcomed the Golden Ticket prize draw because every extra item recycled saves council tax payers’ money. Increasing recycling by just one per cent would save more than £100,000 a year.
So far there has been one £5k winner, and three local groups – Transition Town Tooting, FAST and Share Community – shared the community prize.
More golden tickets are due to be delivered in January. The next draw will be on December 18, followed by another on February 12 and the final one on March 31.
To be in with a chance of winning, put your contact details on a golden ticket and pop it into a clear sack or mixed recycling bank with clean recycling. Golden tickets found with the correct recycling material during the quality control process at the WRWA recycling facility at Smugglers Way will be entered into the draw.
Much of the rubbish generated over the Christmas period can be recycled including wrapping paper (except the metallic kind), Christmas cards and the cardboard boxes from presents, plus
Wine bottles
Christmas pudding and cream pots (rinsed)
Ice cream tubs
Cranberry sauce jars
Drinks cans
Custard tins and cream pots
Please don’t put foil mince pie containers, bubble wrap or polystyrene or shredded or foam packaging in with your recycling.

If you have run out of golden tickets, you can collect more from your local library or leisure centre, the council’s customer services centre in Wandsworth High Street or the housing office reception in Putney Bridge Road. Alternatively you can print your own at www.wrwa.gov.uk/goldenticket.
It’s not too late for eligible local community organisations that want a chance to be nominated for a community reward to register. They must confirm that they will encourage their members, supporters and/or other local residents to recycle, and to avoid contaminating their recycling with the wrong materials.
