30 cells will replace existing facilities in Tooting & Battersea
Chief Superintendent David Chinchen confirmed the opening of a new Custody Centre for the Borough based on the site of the existing Wandsworth Police Station at the junction of Wandsworth High Street with Putney Bridge Road in Wandsworth Town Centre.
The 30-cell Custody Centre will be operational from Monday 2 July 2012.
The building will also provide accommodation for a number of investigation teams that comprise the Borough's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
It will replace existing custody facilities at Battersea and Tooting Police Stations.
This will be one of the most modern custody facilities in London and its design and build has incorporated best practice in custody management and investigation from across London and nationally.
CS Chinchen said:
"
This development brings a range of efficiencies that will enable us to further drive our operations to reduce crime and disorder in the Borough."
The building will be a dedicated custody facility without public access, the existing Reception Office facing Putney Bridge Road will continue to provide a point of access for general service issues.
