the next Mayor of Wandsworth is the 4th Prichard to wear the chains
East Putney Cllr Professor Brian Prichard CBE is set to become the next Mayor of Wandsworth.
Cllr Prichard was first elected to the council in 1964 and would be the fourth member of his family to have taken up the post of Mayor in south west London. The Rev Alfred Prichard was Mayor of Battersea 1930 - 31, Sir Norman Prichard held the same post 1935 - 36 and Douglas Prichard 1951 - 52; grandfather, father and uncle respectively.
The annual election of the Mayor took place ln the 14th May in the Civic Suite, when the current mayor, Cllr John Farebrother handed over the reins.
Cllr Prichard is a retired physician although he remains active in his academic specialty of clinical pharmacology and is a non-executive director of Richmond Pharmacology. He is a Conservative Party member and has served on a number of committees including Children’s Services, Adult Social Services, Health, Housing, Planning and Transportation, Audit and Standards and Ethics. He was Chairman of the Conservative Group for nine years and Chairman of the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education. During his professional career Cllr Prichard specialised in high blood pressure management and was also responsible for an alcohol detoxification service. He is Chairman of the Institute of Alcohol Studies and also a founder member of the Conservative Medical Society and was awarded a CBE in 1996 in recognition of his long service as an officer. |

Brian lives in Thamesfield and is married with 4 children. He was educated locally, attending Westhill Primary School, Battersea Grammar School and qualified in medicine at St George’s Hospital.
He is a governor of ADT College and a member of Trinity Road Chapel where he has served as a Deacon. For some thirty years he acted as a medical officer at Boys’ Brigade camps, in recent years under the direction of Chris Buss, Deputy Chief Executive of Wandsworth Council.
Cllr Prichard’s mayoral charities for the coming 12 months will be the Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, the Scouts and the Guides.
West Putney Cllr Mrs. Jane Cooper is set to be the new Deputy Mayor of Wandsworth.
Cllr Cooper is a retired civil servant who was first elected to the council in May 2002. She is Chairman of the Housing Committee and has previously chaired the Planning and Transportation Committee.
She has also served on the Adult Social Services Committee, the Crematorium Board and the Passenger Transport Liaison Group.
Cllr Cooper has lived for over 30 years in Southfields, has been a local school governor for over 25 of those years and is about to start her 25th year as a local Magistrate.
Her interests outside local government include theatre, English Heritage and the National Trust (with memberships in both) and support for various charities, including Help the Aged, Christian Blind Mission and the Blue Cross.
