By encouraging cycling with free classes & bike safety checks
Free cycle training classes and bike safety checks are taking place throughout the spring and summer to help more local people convert to pedal power.
The programme is part of the town hall's efforts to ease overcrowding on the transport network and to tackle air pollution caused by London's heavy traffic.
This year the council has also teamed up with British Cycling and Team Sky to provide a series of guided bike rides for local people. The 'Skyrides' programme - which is currently being developed - aims to encourage more residents to explore the city on two wheels and to discover all the benefits of travelling by bike.
The council's cycle training classes are free of charge to children and adults who live, work, or study in Wandsworth and places are issued on a first come first serve basis. For more information including how to apply for a place visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk/cycletraining
A series of Cycle Corner events will begin in June where residents can bring their bikes along for a free safety check and security marking. These sessions will take place at the following times and locations:
The council's free cycle maintenance classes for beginners are now fully booked.
