Have Your Say On Conservation Areas

Meetings arranged as part of an on-going review

Residents living in nine conservation areas in the borough are being invited to public meetings where they can say what they think is special about their neighbourhood and how it should be looked after.

There are 45 in the borough and each one has special architectural or historic interest. They range from traditional village centres in Battersea and Roehampton to main town centres and residential areas. These meetings are part of an on-going review of local conservation areas.

Granting a neighbourhood conservation area status aims to preserve and enhance its character and appearance. It means that any new development should be carried out in a way that does not harm the area's special character.

Each conservation area has its own individual 'character statement', which sets out a profile of the area, covering the history and form of development, important buildings and townscape, plus prevalent building features and materials.

New appraisals are now being carried out for the following conservation areas: Clapham Junction; Landford Road;  Magdalen Park; Putney Heath; Putney Lower Common; Shaftesbury Park Estate; St John’s Hill Grove; Streatham Park and Victoria Drive.

Residents will be able to speak to conservation officers and express their views at the following venues. All the meetings will be held between 7pm and 9pm.
