A week of events and activities specially for carers
Carers are invited to celebrate this year’s National Carers' Week at one of a series of events across the borough.
A Tea Dance will be held at the Civic Suite in Wandsworth on June 21, with tea and cakes served by local dignitaries, including council leader Cllr Ravi Govindia, and the Chief Executive, Paul Martin.
Young carers will be able to enjoy a picnic in Battersea Park on June 16. Many children and young people care for a parent or sibling.
There will also be activities to help carers understand the importance of taking care of themselves and enjoying their lives outside of their caring role, including an exercise class taster sessions and a free meditation class.
A carer is anyone who provides unpaid support to a relative, partner, child or friend due to illness, disability, frailty, mental health condition or substance misuse problem.
Wandsworth's Carers' Champion Cllr Claire Clay said: "Wandsworth has a hidden army of carers who perform a crucial role. Being a carer can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel relentless and leave carers feeling isolated and exhausted.
"We want Carers' Week to show carers that there is life outside of caring and that their hard work is not going unrecognised."
Carers' Week events are being organised by the Wandsworth Carers' Centre, which provides help and support to local carers. If you would like to go, call (020) 8877 1200 or email info@wandsworthcarers.org.uk.
