Local students asked to honour exceptional school staff

Local children have benefitted from the Jack Petchey Foundation

A new scheme recognising school staff from Wandsworth who have gone the extra mile to support and motivate youngsters during the coronavirus pandemic, is now open for nominations.

The Jack Petchey Foundation last week launched its Lockdown School Hero Award. School and college students, aged 11-19, are invited to nominate any school member of staff they feel deserves recognition, via the Foundation’s website.

Winners will be awarded a certificate, a letter from Sir Jack himself and a special face mask to recognise their achievements.

Students wishing to nominate a member of staff should click this link and fill out the online details. Nominations will be reviewed weekly and the winners contacted directly.

A school staff member can be nominated for any number of reasons. Perhaps they are a teacher who has put extra special effort into making remote lessons creative and interesting, or maybe they are a school cleaner who has shown exceptional commitment to keeping the school sanitised and safe. Maybe students would like to nominate a librarian who has helped engage them in reading at home, or simply a member of staff who has gone above and beyond to support their students through this difficult year.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up in 1999 to inspire and motivate young people across London and Essex, by providing exciting projects and programmes for them to get involved in. It also recognises the outstanding achievements of today’s young people by awarding them for their hard work and positive impact in their community.

Local winners last year included 17-year-old South Thames College student Megan Davis, who was honoured for her local volunteering work and fundraising.
Her volunteering included organising many themed weekends and events including fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness, Children In Need and Wear Green for Grenfell Day.

The Jack Petchy Foundation has worked with students and youth groups across Wandsworth since 2007, providing almost £1million in funding to schools and youth clubs.
