Leonie Cooper re-elected to London Assembly with increased majority
Leonie Cooper, London Assembly for Merton and Wandsworth
Conservative hopes of retaking the Merton and Wandsworth seat in the London Assembly have been dashed after Leonie Cooper was re-elected.
She won comfortably, increasing her majority from 4,301 in 2016 to 14,500 this year.
Although her share of the vote was largely unchanged, the Conservatives, represented by Louise Calland, saw a 5.7 percentage point decrease in their share with the Greens and the Liberal Democrats gaining.

Overall, Labour failed in its ambition to win overall control of the Assembly losing one seat during the vote.
Sadiq Khan was re-elected Mayor despite the Conservative candidate Shaun Bailey significantly outperforming earlier expectations.
