A free conference is being held to raise parents’ awareness about internet and mobile phone safety
The e-safety event will be on March 27 at the Battersea Arts Centre. Parents and carers can find out about the latest technology and will be given tips on how to help children safely use the internet, mobile phones and other digital technology.
Research suggests that one in five youngsters have accessed harmful or inappropriate material on the internet and a third think their parents are not aware of what they are doing online. Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of under-tens own a mobile phone.
The event is being organised by the Wandsworth Primary Play Association (WPPA), with the support of the Wandsworth Safeguarding Children Board (WSCB).
Speakers will include Childnet International, the Metropolitan Police, Orange Mobile and Internet Provider and a local ICT consultant.
It is free, although you have to book a space by March 12, and there will be an activity zone to entertain children aged between three and 11. It runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Find at more at www.wppa.co.uk, email wppa@wppa.co.uk or call (020) 8767 3888.
The WSCB brings together health services, the council, the police and other key agencies to keep young people in the borough safe. You can find out more about its e-safety strategy and action plan at www.wscb.org.uk.
