Nominate Residents For Active Wandsworth Awards


for outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity within the borough can be nominated

The competition rewards talented local sports performers, coaches, volunteers, teams and clubs for their exceptional achievements during 2009.

There are ten award categories including voluntary services, sport and physical activity, young volunteer of the year and the Mayor's award.

The nominees’ achievements must have taken place in 2009.

The closing date for entries is Thursday 12 February, 2010 and the winners will be announced at an the Active Wandsworth Awards Ceremony on Thursday 18 March.

Wandsworth’s executive member for leisure and environment Sarah McDermott said:

“These awards give us the opportunity to recognise the borough’s finest athletes, and reward the extraordinary individuals who dedicate their time to helping others enjoy sports and exercise. If you know someone who helps make Wandsworth an active and energetic borough then please do not hesitate to nominate them for an award.”

The ten categories are:

* Developing Community Sport & Physical Activity:

A club or individual who has made a positive impact on the community by providing an opportunity to increase participation or learn new skills.

* The Mayor’s Award:

A club or individual that has shown outstanding commitment and dedication to make a significant achievement within disability sport.

* Voluntary Services to Sport & Physical Activity:

A volunteer who has made a valuable contribution that has made a difference in the community by providing opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity.

* Young Volunteer of the Year:

A young volunteer who has made a valuable contribution that has made a difference in the community and provided opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity.

* Coach of the Year (Performance):

A dedicated, hard working and enthusiastic individual who has assisted with the development of talented athletes and achieved success at a high level (regional or above).

* Coach/Instructor of the Year (Community):

A dedicated, hard working and enthusiastic individual who has shown outstanding commitment to a team or club in providing opportunities for people to take part at community level.

* Team of the Year (Under 11):

A junior team or club that has had outstanding success or made significant achievements in 2009.

* Team of the Year (Under 18):

A youth team or club that has had outstanding success or made significant achievements in 2009.

* Junior Sports Person of the Year (13 and under):

A talented, dedicated and hard working young athlete who has excelled at a high level to achieve outstanding success in 2009.

* Sports Person of the Year (21 and under):

A talented, dedicated and hard working athlete who has excelled at a high level to achieve outstanding success in 2009.
