Wandsworth Festival of Learning Begins This Month

Learn new skills and improve your employability

This year’s Wandsworth Festival of Learning will run from now until September, with a chance to learn new skills and improve your employability

Festival of Learning is the biggest celebration of lifelong learning in England. It highlights the benefits of learning, celebrates achievements of adults who have used learning to transform their lives, and encourages everyone to embrace lifelong learning.

In Wandsworth, the festival is being run by the council's Lifelong Learning team, which runs at least 650 courses taken by more than 8,000 people a year

This year’s Wandsworth Festival of Learning includes a number of options to improve your employability and communication skills including:

  • IT skills including coding and apps, IT skills for work, IT basics and social media
  • Hospitality skills including food safety, events training, barista and bar training
  • An introductory workshop on health and social care for adults who do not have English as a first language
  • Health and lifestyle courses including yoga for the over 60s and dance for health and wellbeing
  • The Tooting Job Club

Courses are run at various locations include the Rose Community Centre in Nine Elms, Tooting Library, the Wandsworth City Learning Centre in Balham and the Professional Development Centre in Tooting.

Cabinet member for skills and employment Cllr Jonathan Cook said, “Our Lifelong Learning Team deliver hundreds of courses every year to thousands of local people. The Festival of Learning is a chance to get a taste of some of the courses on offer, pick up skills to improve your life and enhance your job prospects or just enjoy learning for its own sake whatever your age.”
