GCSE Results Stable

88% of pupils receiving five or more GCSEs at A* to C

Overall GCSE results in Wandsworth have remained stable this year, following significant gains in 2011.

Students at Ernest Bevin bucked the trend, with results up by six per cent, as did Graveney students, with a rise of five percentage points.

The results for five or more A* to C including English and Maths has gone down by three percentage points to 61 per cent. This is likely to have been caused by a change in grading boundaries by exam boards, which has led to complaints nationally of lower scores in English.

However Southfields saw a rise of ten percentage points, and Elliott School received its best ever results with 62 per cent gaining five or more A*-C grades including English and Maths, and an increase in students gaining top grades.

Elliott pupil Jo Tomlinson gained nine A* grades and two As, while fellow pupils Sarah Khoshnaw and Amir Al-Hassan achieved six A* and six A grades.

Headteacher Mark Phillips said:
“This is real proof that the school is back on track and in a position to offer the local community a first class standard of education. I am confident that as we become ARK Putney Academy the school will go from strength to strength.”

Around 22 per cent of students successfully achieved an English Baccalaureate – up from 18 per cent last year. Students at Southfields and Chestnut Grove did particularly well, with results up 22 points and 10 points respectively.

Executive member for Children and Young People's Services, Cllr Kathy Tracey said:

“Our schools continue to perform incredibly well and these results are a testament to the hard work of all our students and teachers.”

The results are provisional and do not include special schools or the Ashcroft Academy. Final results will be available in January.
