Children awe struck by Olympics ? Get them out there to try new sports

Local people struck with Olympic fever can try their hand at medal-winning sports. Wandsworth will be hosting courses in cycling and judo this summer - both sports in which Team GB has shone.

Young cyclists aged between eight and 16 can develop their skills on a course running on August 23 and 24 as part of the council's summer holiday fun programme.

The fun sessions are delivered by qualified British Cycling coaches and build on the Sky Ride and Breeze cycling initiatives already going on in the borough.

The cost is £10 per day or £17.50 for two days. Children must be able to already ride a bike.

Young people inspired by the games can also sign up for other holiday fun sport courses including non-contact boxing, multi-watersports and the multisport programmes for six to 13-year-olds at the Wandle Leisure Centre and Chestnut Grove School.

For further information visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk/holidayfun or call (020) 8871 6756 between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

Meanwhile the British Judo Association is running its highly-regarded Adult Beginners Course at Roehampton University, with a initial free taster session enabling people to find out if the sport if for them before they sign up.

No prior experience of judo or any sport is required. The course lasts ten weeks and will give you the chance to gain the skills you need for your red belt.

Free taster sessions are being held on September 22 from 10.30am to noon, and September 24 from 6.30pm to 8pm. The course starts on October 1 from 6pm to 7pm.For more information visit www.britishjudo.org.uk/beginners
