West Putney Councillor Appointed Mayor of Wandsworth

Jane Cooper will serve for 12 months

Cllr Cooper was named as the borough’s mayor at the annual council meeting on Wednesday night. She takes on her new civic duties from the outgoing Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr Piers McCausland

Cllr Cooper, who was born and bred in Yorkshire, is a former civil servant who has lived in Wandsworth for more than 30 years. She was first elected to serve as a councillor in West Putney in 2002.

Since being elected, she has served on a number of town hall committees, including Planning & Transportation, of which she was chairman for three years, while at the same time also serving as chairman of the Passenger Transport Liaison Committee, which ensured that TfL, London Buses and Network Rail worked effectively with the council to improve local transport services.

More recently she has been chairman of the Housing Overview and Scrutiny Committee and has been Wandsworth’s representative on the London Councils’ Housing Forum.

In 2009 she served as deputy mayor of the borough and combines her municipal duties with being a school governor and a justice of the peace.

Her Mayoral charities for her term in office are Age Concern Wandsworth and the St George’s Hospital Charity.

Cllr Cooper will be assisted throughout her year in office by Queenstown ward Cllr Alex Raubitschek.  He has lived with his family in Battersea for nearly ten years and was first elected to the council in 2006. He is currently a school governor at Chesterton primary school.

An applied chemistry graduate, he has worked in publishing and also in recruitment. For eight years he founded and ran an interim management consultancy, which he sold at the beginning of 2008. Since 2009 he has been involved in investing in start-up businesses across Asia and the Middle East and is now currently working with a management and human resources consultancy.
