Local residents encouraged to apply now for cultural funding
Voluntary and community groups in the borough are being urged to apply for funding to boost local projects that promote arts, sport, heritage or festivals.
The aim of the Wandsworth Cultural Wealth Fund is to provide financial help to groups that enrich cultural opportunities and activities in the borough.
Last year almost 30,000 local people were involved in projects and events that were funded by the scheme. These ranged from neighbourhood festivals and town centre carnivals to theatrical performances, concerts, poetry readings, and sports tournaments.
The council will fund up to half the cost of these events and projects, up to a maximum grant of £5,000.
The next deadline for applications to be received for funding is Monday, March 28, but further applications can be submitted throughout the spring and summer with subsequent deadlines of Monday, June 27 and Monday, September 19.
The council’s environment and culture spokesman Cllr Sarah McDermott said: “We want to support a wide range of cultural initiatives in the borough.
“These events can greatly improve and enrich our lives and they also achieve a great deal in bringing communities together and strengthening community ties - so we are keen to hear from local groups that come up with exciting plans that could benefit from some town hall funding.”
