2011 is the next census year - temporary jobs available
Census collectors and special enumerators will go out into the community and encourage people to fill in the questionnaires. Census coordinators are also needed to manage this process. In addition census coverage survey staff will carry out door step interviews with the public.
You would be employed directly by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), with contractor Capita running recruitment, training and payroll services. Many jobs can be fitted around full-time employment or other commitments. Contract periods will range from a couple of weeks to several months.
The Census is a comprehensive survey of the UK population and is carried out every 10 years. Every household is asked to complete a census questionnaire. This information is used by the ONS to provide population estimates which government, local authorities and other organisations use to fund, plan and deliver public services such as healthcare, education, housing and transport.
Employing people with local knowledge and an understanding of the borough to work in the jobs available will help ensure a successful Census in Wandsworth.
