This is part of the council’s annual voter registration canvass. It will have been two years since many residents have been asked to complete a household registration form and is the first canvass since the start of Individual Electoral Registration (IER). 

The introduction of IER means the form will work in a different way. The aim is to make sure the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Residents can also now complete the form online. 

Residents who do not respond are likely to be visited by council electoral staff.

It’s particularly important that anyone who has moved address recently looks out for the form and checks that they are properly registered.

Research indicates that whilst almost 95 per cent of homeowners are correctly registered, this figure plummets to just 63 per cent of those who rent. 

Registering to vote means you can have your say in local and national elections, while being on the electoral register can also improve your credit score.
