In 6k Fun Run For Disability Snowsport UK

Battersea Park witnessed the coming together of over 1200 Santas last weekend to raise valuable funds for the charity Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK). Families and single runners alike turned out in force to support the fifth Original London Run, a 6k fun run where entrants dressed up as Santa for the day to run around the park.
 
Paralympian Tim Farr, from the British Disabled Ski Team, set the runners on their way on the cold December morning.
 
The event is one of the DSUK charity’s biggest fundraisers, pulling in participants from miles around. With participants welcome to run, walk or wheel their way round - as the course was wheelchair friendly - it made for quite a Christmassy spectacle.  
 

 

 

 

Trustee & Treasurer of the Charity Paul Masters who was present on the day commented:
“It was extremely heartening to see such a good turnout on Saturday as the event had been moved from the previous weekend due to bad weather and we know that everyone has plenty of other commitments at this time of the year. We thank all our runners for bearing with us; we hope they had fun on the day and they have helped raise vital funds for thousands of people with disabilities to be able to access snowsports in the UK and overseas with the help of specialist adaptive instructors and equipment.”
 
Over the last year in the UK, three new adaptive ski schools have opened – Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes and Tamworth – and existing facilities have been expanded in Manchester, Castleford and Glasgow, helping make disabled snowsports accessible to a much wider audience all year round and UK wide.

Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) is a people-centred organisation with a unique sense of purpose: that anyone regardless of their disability can take part in and enjoy the thrill of snowsport. They provide exciting and life enhancing activities for individuals or groups who require adaptive equipment and/or special instruction and support. The charity relies entirely on funds generated by events like this one, and public donation.
