Results from the 2008 Local Elections and the London Assembly
On May 1st 362,542 of the electorate turned out to vote this year in comparison with 340,792 four years ago.
Pictured right is the winning candidate for Richard Tracey who received just under 44% of the votes.
Mr Tracey's said of his objectives for Merton and Wandsworth:
"I am looking forward to the prospect of working within the Greater London Assembly from 2008. I believe the Mayor has to be held to account more strongly. Mayoral spending and City Hall bureaucracy are becoming seriously excessive, while more efficient management needs to be exerted over London transport services and overall policing in the capital. I was one of the team of Ministers involved in the abolition of the former GLC monster and I have a fear that the current Mayor has been trying to rebuild his old empire. It must be stopped."
