The candidates for the Westminster seat
The sitting MP for this seat is Tony Colman (pictured below) who represents Labour. In the 2001 election he won the seat from the Conservatives with a majority of 8.1%, he had previously been elected MP for Putney on May 1st 1997.
Tony was educated at Paston Grammar School and Magdalene College, Cambridge.
From 1964-69 he worked for Unilever (United Africa Company) and 1969-90
The Burton Group where he was a Board Director. From 1991 until June 1997
he was Leader of the London Borough of Merton. He was re-elected in June
2001.
He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Socially Responsible
Investment and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Management, and Vice-Chair
of GLOBE UK, a group that promotes policies supporting sustainable development
through political education and parliamentary action.
The
Tories have selected Justine Greening (pictured right) to contest the
constituency. Born in 1969, she has an MBA from the London Business
School and is a Finance Manager at Centrica plc.
Justine has already got experience of local government � she's been a
local councillor in Epping, and was Vice Chair of the Finance Committee.
Local
Liberal Democrats have selected Jeremy Ambache (pictured
left) as their candidate.
Jeremy Ambache has had a career in local government, most recently as Director of Social Services for two councils. He has also been an advisor to central government on policies for disabled and older people. He is currently working as a campaign organiser for the Liberal Democrats.
The
Green Party has selected Keith Magnum (pictured right)
as their Prospective Paliamentry Candidate. Keith Magnum is 38,
Anglo-Indian and a Politics and International Relations graduate. He currently
works in the administration of the London Assembly Secretariat, Greater
London Authority, GLA.
He is also UNISON Branch Secretary at the Greater London Authority and
has
played a key role in organising locally against the Government�s action
against public sector pensions recently attended the TUC Conference �Tackling
Climate Change in the Workplace� and organised press work, calling on
local authorities to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and to work with
the Carbon Trust to do so. He is an LEA governor of a Hackney primary
school and an Executive Member of Hackney Community and Police Consultative
Group.
The UKIP have selected Anthony Gahan (pictured right) is 38 Years old and a partner in a London based investment banking business which he co-founded in 2003.
