PhotoWANDSWORTH 2012

Entries open for annual photo competition

Wandsworth Council’s Arts and Film teams are now accepting entries to this year’s photoWANDSWORTH, the borough's annual photography competition .

Competition judges are inviting photographers of all levels to submit images for one or all of four interlinked categories/scenes.

Using the winning entries from each category, writer Sarah Butler will then create an original new story around the submitted photographs.

Ms Butler has proposed has proposed four key categories/scenes which will form the basis of the story. They are:

  • Arrival of a stranger
  • A secret is revealed
  • Demanding an answer
  • Looking for a way out

The contest is open to anyone – individuals or groups – interested in photography but the submitted images must be taken in the borough of Wandsworth.

The judging panel, which consists of photography expert Brett Jefferson Stott and Ms Butler, will be looking for unique, imaginative entries, which capture magical images of everyday scenes, as well as experimental pictures.

Wandsworth’s culture spokesman, Councillor Jonathan Cook, said: “This competition has been showcasing photographic talent in the borough for more than 20 years.

“It is an exciting contest for amateurs and photography-lovers, as it gives them a perfect opportunity to explore their local environment and demonstrate their creativity.

“I am eager to see whether 2012’s entries can trump the fantastic efforts submitted in previous years.”

The winners will be announced at a prize-giving event in April, next year. There will also be an exhibition of Ms Butler’s story and specially selected entries at Southside Shopping Centre as part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival 2012.
