Residents can have their say on new Earlsfield school plan

The council is inviting local residents to register their views on proposals for a new primary school and nursery in Earlsfield.

Residents are being consulted on a planning application for the new school, which if approved, would be built on the site of the vacant Atheldene Centre in Garratt Lane.

If granted planning permission it would admit 60 children a year, eventually providing enough places for 420 pupils, alongside a nursery with space for 52 toddlers.

To help fund the construction costs the council is also proposing that nine flats are built on the part of the Atheldene site that fronts Oakshaw Road.

More than 500 letters have been sent out to residents living nearby telling them more about the plans and giving details of how to take part in the public consultation. Residents have until January 31 to register their views.

If the scheme is given the green light, the Council says it could form part of a wider regeneration programme in this part of the borough. This could include a modern new state-of-the-art community health centre, along with new homes and shops to replace nearby council-owned buildings that are empty and surplus to current needs. These proposals have also been the subject of widespread public consultation.
