No runway alternation for 13 weeks

say goodbye to quiet periods under the flight path....

plane to heathrow

Local people affected by aircraft noise will get a taste of life without runway alternation over the next thirteen weeks.

BAA have now started work upgrading the northern runway in preparation for the new A380 aircraft. Between now and mid-April the runway will be closed from 10.30pm to 6am from Sunday to Thursday each week.

This means that all aircraft at this time will land and take off from the southern runway.

When Heathrow is on westerly operations landings at the southern runway disturb people in Battersea, Wandsworth and Putney.

Ministers are expected to announce plans in March for ending the current relief provided by runway alternation. Both runways would then be used throughout the day for take offs and landings.

The council and anti-noise campaign group HACAN say this will mean no more quiet periods for people under the flightpath.
