Thames Tunnel Information Day

Drop-in session, presentation and Q&A at Wandsworth Town Hall

The Planning Inspectorate is holding a Thames Tunnel drop-in session at Wandsworth Town Hall next week.

The event will take place on Tuesday 7 May from 10am to 5pm in the Marble Hall of the Old Town Hall.

A presentation and Q&A session take place later that day from 7.30pm to 9pm in the Council Chamber.
The aim is to help people understand the planning process and how to make representations.

Thames Water's development consent application for the 'super sewer', proposed to help prevent untreated sewage flowing into the River Thames, was accepted for examination by the Inspectorate on 27 March 2013.
The scheme would involve creating six construction sites in Wandsworth, and others close to the borough boundary including one at Barn Elms (Richmond).

As a major infrastructure project the application will be determined by the Planning Inspectorate, not by local councils.

Until 28 May 2013, anyone with views about the Thames Tideway Tunnel has a period of 42 consecutive days to register with the Inspectorate as an 'interested party'.
Registering as an interested party ensures involvement in the examination of the application. These parties will be able to present their views to the Examining Authority, a panel of up to five Inspectors appointed by the Inspectorate, and attend meetings or hearings.
This includes the Preliminary Meeting, expected to be held this September, which is an opportunity to influence how the application should be examined.

Representations on the application must be made to the Inspectorate using the Registration and Relevant Representation Form.

This is available online at or can be obtained from the Inspectorate by calling 0303 444 5000.

During the same 42-day period (17 April - 28 May 2013), a hard copy of the full documentation will be available at the following locations between 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

• London Rowing Club, Embankment, Putney, SW15 1LB
• Linden House, Upper Mall, Hammersmith, W6 9TA
• Wandsworth Town Hall (Civic Suite), Wandsworth High Street, SW18 2PU
• Institution of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street, Westminster, SW1P 3AA
• Glaziers Hall, 9 Montague Close, London Bridge, SE1 9DD
• Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre, 3-4 Shadwell Pierhead, Glamis Road, E1W 3TD.

Council officials are now examining the development consent application in detail and will be making representations to the Inspectorate on behalf of local residents.

Thames Water's website includes useful links to 'summary information' for the six Wandsworth sites plus Barn Elms.

The full documentation is also available for scrutiny via the Inspectorate's website.
