An update from TfL
I am writing to make you aware that as of Sunday 10 July 2011 Southern Gas Network (SGN) will be using temporary three-way/two phase traffic signals on Upper Richmond Road by the junction of West Hill, in order to carry out the next phase of work. The closure of Upper Richmond Road eastbound, along with the current diversions, will remain in place during this phase of works. The temporary signals will be removed by Sunday 7 August 2011 and the Upper Richmond Road restrictions will be lifted by early September 2011.
This phase was originally planned to take place during the school summer holidays, however it was bought forward to avoid conflict with the London to Surrey Cycle Classic.
TfL is anticipating serious disruption to vehicular traffic during this period and to mitigate this, TfL and SGN will have electronic Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) in the area to pre-warn drivers of these works. TfL’s London Streets Traffic Control Centre (LSTCC) monitor London’s roads 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the responsibility of keeping London moving. The operators in the LSTCC will monitor this location during the works and if necessary remotely put sophisticated plans onto our traffic signals to help ease congestion or instruct alterations to the traffic management on site. TfL has worked closely with SGN and the London Borough of Wandsworth in order to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local people and businesses as far as possible.
I apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused because of these essential works. Should you require further information or an update during the delivery of these works please contact our Streets Customer Services department on 0845 305 1234 or via our website at www.tfl.gov.uk/contact
