Opportunity for community to discuss MPs' expenses and democratic reform
Cllr Andrew Dakers, Leader of Hounslow Liberal Democrats, has announced a series of public debates under the banner of 'Take Back Power Hounslow'.
The series of four debates will provide a space for the local community to debate issues of MPs' expenses and democratic reform.
The public meetings will be independently chaired.
Invites have gone out to all parliamentary candidates, independent groups and the current MP for Brentford & Isleworth Constituency to participate in the debates. Local independents and the Green Party have already confirmed their participation.
Cllr Dakers, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Brentford & Isleworth, said, "Our democracy at a local, UK and European level needs fundamental reform and now is the time for much needed action. People are rightly angry and frustrated at expenses abuses and wondering when the House of Commons will move into the modern era.
"Only if tangible changes are made can trust be rebuilt in our democratic system. This series of four public meetings will give our local communities the opportunity to voice their concerns and ideas for change. We can then feed these into the national debate."
The debates will take place at:
ISLEWORTH: Mon 6 July, Isleworth Town Hall, 7.30pm;
HOUNSLOW: Tues 7 July, Montague Hall, 7.30pm;
BRENTFORD: Wed 8 July, St Paul's Church, 7.30pm;
CHISWICK: Thurs 9 July, Chiswick Town Hall, 7.30pm.
