The Hounslow Youth Council (HYC) has launched its latest recruSeptember 11, 2025ision-making and policy development. The initiative aims to strengthen youth representation across the borough, with a focus on collaboration between young people and council departments.
Established to provide a structured platform for youth engagement, HYC enables members to participate in projects, consultations, and events that influence public services. In recent years, the council has contributed to borough-wide responses on issues such as knife crime and community safety, and has worked with transport officers to review school bus routes. It has also maintained an ongoing dialogue with the Council’s communications team regarding youth engagement strategies.
HYC members regularly interact with elected officials and council officers, offering feedback and proposals on matters affecting young people. The group also plays a role in national representation through the UK Youth Parliament, where Hounslow delegates have taken part in debates on topics including votes at 16, curriculum reform, and period dignity.
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Education, Children, Skills, and Employment, acknowledged the council’s role in amplifying youth voices, stating that young people are “the change-makers of today.”
Beyond policy work, HYC facilitates social and leadership development through events and an annual conference that brings together stakeholders from across the borough. The programme is youth-led, with members shaping the agenda and priorities for the year ahead.
Applications are currently open. For further information, prospective members can contact Chloe Regis at Chloe.Regis@Hounslow.gov.uk or Chelsea Mason at Chelsea.Mason@Hounslow.gov.uk.
