Hounslow Council is encouraging residents to learn more about volunteering opportunities in the borough during Volunteers’ Week, which this year runs from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 June.

The council’s partner organisation – Ealing and Hounslow CVS – has a wealth of volunteering opportunities on its website.

The charity was recently awarded the Investor in Volunteering accreditation, formally recognising its commitment to best practice in volunteer management. Whether it is volunteering at Hounslow’s Community Foodbox or with The Arts Centre Hounslow , the borough’s voluntary groups have a lot to offer.

Chris, recently started volunteering for Citizen’s Advice Hounslow. He said, “I enjoy having the chance to contribute to Citizens Advice Hounslow and to support the valuable work they do for the community. There’s a lot to learn, but I’m eager to learn more and develop my skills in giving advice because I like to be helpful to others”.

The council is also looking for volunteers: residents could volunteer for the Summer of Culture programme that launched last month or play a leading role at historic houses such as Boston Manor House.

With numerous parks across the borough, the council and the Lampton Services Countryside team run a range of volunteering sessions to manage habitats.

These activities include litter picking, tree planting, bramble bashing, habitat surveying and more. Residents can find out more here.

Along with parks and historic houses, the council also has options for a cause residents feel most passionate about: residents could take part in a Befriending service for older people and help make Hounslow greener or become a digital champion and help residents learn I.T skills.

Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Cabinet Member for Residents Support, Communities and Equalities at Hounslow Council, said, “Volunteers form the bedrock of our thriving voluntary sector, and many community groups could simply not survive without them.

“With over 800 charities and voluntary groups in Hounslow, there is so many ways residents could give back to their community and many volunteers have highlighted the positive impact on their wellbeing.”
