Clients collecting emergency food parcels at the Rose Community Centre in Brentford will now be welcomed into a warm, comfortable space, following a refurbishment funded by donations from Kew Fete.
Hounslow Community FoodBox, which provides emergency food and essential items to people facing hardship, has transformed its waiting area into a brighter, more welcoming environment. Visitors can now enjoy a hot drink and a biscuit, speak with volunteers about concerns, or access information about additional support services through FoodBox’s referral partners.
The new space also includes a ‘Best Before’ shelf, offering jars and tins past their official best-before date but still safe to use. Clients are encouraged to help themselves, or leave behind items they do not need for others to take. In emergencies, sanitary products and nappies are also available.
Judith Trounson, FoodBox Operations Trustee, said, “Having the funding to turn this collection point into a bright, clean place has been a complete game changer. Now, we not only have a table and comfortable chairs, we also have space for children, bookshelves with donated books, and plenty of options to display helpful information. We are extremely grateful to Kew Fete for the donation and to our volunteers who turned this vision into reality.”
Mike Glazebrook, Chairman of Kew Fete, added, “Supporting this refurbishment means that those visiting are welcomed into a more comfortable and reassuring space during times of hardship. Kew Fete is proud to contribute to such a valuable local charity.”
Founded in 2012, FoodBox began delivering emergency food support in 2013 in response to rising poverty across Hounslow. Each year, the number of people supported has grown, with many travelling long distances — sometimes over an hour — to collect parcels. The charity’s mission is not only to provide food and essential items but also to signpost clients to services that can help them get back on track.
The charity’s success stories continue to inspire its team of volunteers, who dedicate their time to try to ensure no one in the borough goes hungry.
You can support the charity by making a donation through its JustGiving page.
