70.2% vote to stay in EU while 29.8% vote to leave
Residents of Hammersmith and Fulham voted strongly to Remain in the European Union in yesterday's historic referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the EU.
The result in our borough was as follows:
The total number of ballot papers counted was | 80,347 |
The total number of votes cast in favour of REMAIN was | 56,188 |
The total number of votes cast in favour of LEAVE was | 24,054 |
This means that 70.02% voted to Remain while 29.8% voted to Leave.
Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands tweeted @GregHands: " Looks like those many hours spent at the Tube stations by RemainCF & StrongerinhammS have paid off! "
Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter tweeted@HammersmithAndy: "
Very proud that Hammersmith & Fulham has voted to #Remain by 70% to 30%. "
London as a whole also voted to Remain, with 2.2million votes across 28 boroughs. The other five boroughs were taken by Leave, who secured 1.5million votes in the capital.
However, turnout was around two per cent lower in the capital than the rest of the UK - in part due to torrential rain and transport problems in the south-east on polling day.
The local vote was in contrast to the national result which saw 51.9% vote to Leave, and 48.1% to Remain.
