For Grand Final with MTV star Richard Blackwood
Tickets are now on sale for the Wandsworth Young Performer 2010 Grand Final where sixteen talented local acts will battle it out to be crowned this year’s champion.
The council-run event will be hosted by former Wandsworth resident and MTV star Richard Blackwood at the Civic Suite, Wandsworth High Street, Sw18 on Sunday 28 November. Doors open at 4.30pm with the first act starting at 5pm prompt.
The performers are all aged between 14 and 19 years old and have demonstrated a depth of talent well beyond their years. To reach the final, each act has been through a series of nerve-racking auditions followed by performance development workshops with industry professionals.
This year’s line up includes a wide range of talents including an indie band, beatboxers, a solo street dancer, a ‘soul rap’ performer, a jazz guitarist and several vocalists. Many of the acts will be supported with a live backing band, the Vibe-a-deliks, to help elevate the experience for performers and audience alike.
This year's prizes include a professional photo shoot with a fashion stylist, a marketing consultation, a PR consultation and radio interview on BANG FM and a studio recording session and online promotions consultation with Bigga Fish.
Local young people have been recruited to help plan, manage and promote the competition. Those taking part are being paid for their efforts and are picking up valuable work experience as supporting production managers, stage managers, sound and lighting technicians and stage runners. A sixth form student from Chestnut Grove School designed the event programme, while a dedicated ‘street team’ have helped market and promote the grand final event.
The Young Performer 2010 competition is run by the council’s art team and youth service in partnership with Bigga Fish, The Halfmoon Putney, Royal Academy of Dance and Battersea Arts Centre (BAC).
Tickets to the final cost £7. To buy in advance by credit or debit card call 020 8871 8711, Monday –Friday 9am-5pm.
