Putney WharfPutney's 60's eyesore has become one of it's most popular skylines - the old ICL tower now part of the Putney Wharf complex.  It has recently been won the "Best Conversion" award in the 2005 National HomeBuilder Design Awards.

Four awards were recieved by properties within the borough;

* Best house of three or more storeys - 5 Tonsley Place. Scheme by Q Developments, architects Mark Fairhurst Architecture and Design

* Best apartment building - Albion Riverside. Scheme by Hutchison Whampoa, architects Foster and Partners

* Best conversion - the Tower at Putney Wharf. Scheme by St George South London, architects Patel Taylor

* Best landscaped development - Chelsea Bridge Wharf. Scheme by Berkeley Homes, architects Scott Brownrigg; landscape architects Frederick Gibberd Partnership

The development at 5-9 Tonsley Place was also commended in the Best Small Housing Development category.

The council's planning applications chairman Ravi Govindia said:

"We are seeing some excellent examples of modern design in many of the developments going up around the borough. For Wandsworth to have four winners in a national competition shows just how keen housebuilders are to provide a quality product for local people."

The Council have informed us that the rate of new housebuilding in Wandsworth is currently at record levels with almost 2,000 homes completed last year.
The figures also show a further 5,400 homes on the way including 2,500 dwellings at 75 sites where construction has already started.
