open to all children at Primary Schools in Wandsworth Borough
Children are being given the chance to win a fantastic prize for themselves and a cash boost for their school if they can design winning anti-graffiti posters.
The poster competition is open to all primary age children at a Wandsworth school and has been split into two categories – Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
The two lucky winners will each receive the latest must-have computer console - a top of the range Nintendo Wii. And a cash prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the school of the pupil whose entry is judged to be the best of the two.
The judges will be looking to reward entries that best highlight the problems caused by graffiti, those that are most likely to discourage young people from getting mixed up in this type of vandalism and those that encourage people to report graffiti to the council so that it can be quickly removed.
The closing date for entries is Wednesday, October 31. Designs must be A4 portrait and should be submitted with full contact details, school, age of pupil and category entered (KS1, KS2 or school group) to Poster Competition, Graffiti Section, 17-27 Garratt Lane, Wandsworth, SW18 4AE.
The winning entries are likely to be professionally reproduced and could be put on display at poster sites and information points across the borough over the coming 12 months.
The competition is being held as part of the council's Graffiti Awareness Week (October 8-14), which aims to highlight the damage caused to local communities by graffiti. As well as a number of initiatives in local schools to educate children and young people about the consequences of graffiti, the council's graffiti squad will also be undertaking a number of operations to not only clean up graffiti – but also catch those behind this environmental crime.
