Local Lunch Raises Awareness Of Local Charity And Neuro-Disability

Raising over £3500 for the medical charity

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability celebrated the success of its special charity lunch on Tuesday 3rd November as 65 people made their way to the Enoteca Turi restaurant in Putney to eat for the RHN.

The event, which was jointly organised by the RHN and Enoteca co-owner, Pamela Turi, helped to raise over £3500 for the medical charity, which is based at Melrose Hall on West Hill, Putney, as well as invaluable awareness of the care it provides for people with serious and profound neuro-disability.

The £65 per head lunch comprised a three course meal including: a vegetarian antipasto to start followed by a main course of free range black leg chicken breast and home mad sausage, and a Torta paradiso with coffee and biscuits for dessert.

Guests were then treated to a short operatic recital by professional opera singer Melinda Hughes (pictured left) before gathering for a special raffle draw. Prizes were provided by sponsors Marmalade Jewellery and Fortman and Mason who donated a limited edition silver ingot and a champagne afternoon tea for two respectively

Mrs Turi decided to host the event in her restaurant to pay tribute to the RHN in memory of her mother, who herself had links with the charity before she sadly died from the long term neurological condition, motor neurone disease.

Pamela Turi (pictured right), who owns the restaurant with her husband Giuseppe said:
“My mother died several years ago with Motor Neurone Disease; when I heard about the fantastic work that the RHN does to restore independence and quality of life, I couldn’t fail to draw parallels with how my mother managed to achieve this whilst living with her condition.  I hope that by hosting joint events we can carry on raising awareness of what can be done for others with similar neurological conditions.”

Sue Shillabeer, Head of Communications at the RHN said:
“We’re delighted to be working with Enoteca Turi and are looking forward to what we can achieve together! This event has given us an opportunity to talk about neuro-disability and our work to maintain and improve the quality of life of our patients and residents”.
