Proxy votes for sudden illness

in the local election May 1st 2008

People who wish to vote in next week's elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly elections but cannot attend their polling station because they suddenly fall ill, can still apply to vote by proxy.

The deadline for applying for a normal postal or proxy vote has now passed, but if voters fall ill or become medically or physically incapacitated between now and polling day and as a result cannot vote in person, they can still obtain a proxy vote.

They will need to complete an application form and have this form counter-signed by their doctor. It will then need to be returned to the electoral registration office in the town hall before 5pm on polling day - Thursday, May 1.

Application forms are now available from the electoral registration office's reception, which is open 9am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays. It will also be open on Saturday, April 26 between 9am and 4pm.

The relevant application form can also be downloaded at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/vote or can be requested by emailing electoral@wandsworth.gov.uk For more information telephone (020) 8871 6023.

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm on Thursday, May 1.
