Play Day's 20th anniversary celebrated at Ravenscourt Park

Fun, entertainment and information for children and young people

Up to 1,000 children, parents, carers and play workers will converge on Ravenscourt Park for Hammersmith & Fulham's annual Play Day event - one of the UK's biggest single celebrations of national Play Day, which this year marks its 20th anniversary. Play Day is organised by the council's residents' services department.

African drumming and dance workshop, hula hoop workshop, music for toddlers, face painting, climbing wall, bouncy castles, soft play, henna, Connect 5 and giant Jenga will be among the attractions at the borough's Play Day 2007 extravaganza on Wednesday 1 August. Families are invited to bring a picnic, although there will be a healthy food stall on site.

Other attractions at Play Day this year will include Maori music and traditional juggling ('poi') from New Zealand, under fives' activities and sporting events. Toddlers, children and young people are all catered for at Play Day as well as their parents or carers who will be able to get information and advice about services for children in the borough.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Andrew Johnson, who will attend this year's event, said: "Ravenscourt Park is a fabulous venue for one of the country's biggest and best national Play Day events, which is in its 20th year this year. We want to ensure our parks have a packed programme of cultural and sporting events throughout the year."

Play Day involves more than 100,000 children taking part in hundreds of activities throughout the UK, from big public events to small gatherings. It is co-ordinated by two charities, the Children's Society and the Children's Play Council.
