Murder In The Cathedral Is Coming To St Mary's Putney

Something Wicked Theatre's production of T.S. Eliot’s modern classic, in the historic and atmospheric surroundings of St. Mary’s Church in Putney, famous location of the ‘Putney Debates’ held by Oliver Cromwell in the seventeenth century during the English Civil War, was delayed and and performances rescheduled for October.

On 6th September actors in costume will perform a rehearsed reading of the play in the Putney Pantry from 4.00-7.00pm. There will also be an opportunity for audience to sample the wonderful medieval menu prepared by Putney Pantry chef, Issa. There will be a modest charge of five pounds for the reading and also for the food.

Murder in the Cathedral is the poetic dramatisation of an equally iconic event in English history, the murder of Thomas Becket in 1170 by the knights of King Henry II in Canterbury Cathedral. Our play, directed by award-winning director, Adam Morley, and performed by trained actors, will focus strongly on the medieval context, making the most of this ancient church setting, using natural lighting and contemporary music to enhance the actors’ performance.

The play will now take place in October on the following evenings: Tuesday 7th, Thursday 8th, Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and matinees: Wednesday, 8th & Thursday 9th.
