with a five mile walk from Putney Embankment
An invitation has gone out from Rotarians in Wandsworth to anyone who would like to join a sponsored walk, starting in Putney, to raise money for Mercy Ships' Africa Mercy Project, www.mercyships.org
The five-mile walk on Sunday 4 th June 2006 sets off from Putney Embankment, beside the London Rowing Club boathouse, along the towpath to Kew Bridge - a testing walk over grass verges, beaches, concrete, stones and sand and will see walkers travel through Hammersmith, Barnes, Chiswick and Kew, and finish on Kew Common.
The Africa Mercy Project is the latest development in the work of Mercy Ships. The vision of Mercy Ships is to bring hope and healing to the poor through providing free world-class health care and community development services. Since 1978, the fleet of hospital ships has impacted millions in developing nations. Now with the Africa Mercy , the newest ship in the fleet, it will provide even greater opportunities to serve the poor and disadvantaged. But first, the ship needs to be refitted as a fully functioning hospital.
The past Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Leslie McDonnell, who as current president of Rotary Club of Putney offers his full support, says Mercy Ships is an exemplary charity organization that deserves every ones support.
