MAJOR PROTEST AGAINST AIRPORT EXPANSION THIS WEEK HACAN ClearSkies urge you to be at Turnham Green, Chiswick, 10.30am Saturday 26th October 2002
Hacan ClearSkies, the group which is lobbying against the further expansion of Heathrow are planning a major protest this week. This will be the main protest in London against the third runway. They will be driving an open top bus bedecked with NO THIRD RUNWAY / HACAN banners from Sloane Square to Windsor. The route we are taking is directly underneath where the new flight path would be. At 10:30am the bus will stop at Turnham Green for a rally. Hacan say that the new runway will not only bring additional flight paths but a huge increase in the number of aircraft (480,000 to 655,000 flights per year). They say that the consultation document makes it clear that 'over time' there is the possibility, once the third runway is built, of doing away with runway alternation. This would increase the number of aircraft to 754,000 flights per year. The event will feature speeches and maps showing the new flight path will be available. A petition to sign will be distributed. They are urging people to come along and make a day out of it. There are ample places to eat and pubs in the area of Turnham Green as well as the shops of Chiswick. They point out that the press will be there to photograph the crowd so even by just turning up you will be helping them in their protest. They say "It is important that everyone who is opposed to an additional runway at Heathrow joins us. " To get to Turnham Green The A-Z map reference is page 81 J5, and nearest underground is Chiswick Park NB not Turnham Green underground itself, which is a little further away. Come out of Chiswick Park Underground, turn south and walk 200 yds along Acton Lane. October 19, 2002 |
