cycling 1039 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats
25 year old Werner Bäumker lives in East Putney and works in the field of Property Investment/Development at Grosvenor in London. But from 4th - 15th September he will not be commuting into London but completing an "End2End Cycle Challenge 2007" which will involve cycling the furthest possible distance across the British Isles: 1039 miles (1662km) in 12 days from Land’s End (south-west England) to John O’ Groats (north-east Scotland).
Not a newcomer to fundraising by bike (Werner competed in the 2005 "Tour de France Challenge" in aid of the Meningitis Trust charity), Werner will be completing the End2End challenge in aid of the UK charity "Martha Trust", based in Hacklinge, Kent. Founded in 1983, Martha Trust provides residential and respite care for people with profound physical and learning disabilities, and professional support to their families.
Why do it? “I grew up with a brother who has severe learning disabilities and is a wheelchair-user. His condition results from an allergic reaction to a 3-in-1 childhood immunisation injection he received when he was six months old." Pictured right is Werner’s elder brother Charl. |
