Art For Recovery

8th - 19th March @ Putney Arts Theatre

A group of talented artists are putting on a show in South London next week. The thing that connects them is that they are all recovering from drug and alcohol dependency.

The group, who attend services at the charity WDP (Westminster Drug Project), find that drawing and painting helps to build calm and confidence, as well as being an enjoyable social activity.

Yasmin Batliwala, chair, says: “WDP is about giving people the tools and support they need to recover. Tapping in to creativity and enabling expression can help to positively fill the void many people feel when giving up drugs and alcohol.”

Paul a WDP service user added: “I have been attending the art group from day one, which has kept my art moving forward. With the help and support of the team I was able to create a portfolio and secure a place on an art and design course.”

The show, called Framing the future, is on at Putney Arts Theatre from 8 – 19 March and is open to the public. The group are part of WDP Wandsworth. WDP provides services across London and the South East.
