Artists’ Open House Weekends

A chance to discover the hidden creativity in your neighbourhood

Artists will open the door to the places where they create their work - including their homes, studios, garden sheds and in one case an old bomb shelter. Visitors can browse as many as they wish over two weekends - October 4 and 5 and October 12 and 13.

There will be a chance to view artwork, and purchase it if they wish, and chat to artists about the creative process. In some cases artists will demonstrate special techniques or offer hands-on making activity for all the family

This year around 100 professional and amateur artists will showcase their work. In previous years more than 15,000 visitors have attended the event, organised by the council’s arts team in conjunction with an artists’ steering committee.

As well as painting and drawing, artwork will include crafts, design, sculpture, printing, jewellery, photography, film and installations

The borough’s culture spokesman, Councillor Jonathan Cook, said: “This event is popular every year because it’s a rare chance to meet artists in their creative environment and really find out what makes them tick. It also means you can buy work directly from the artist themselves, boosting their sales and stimulating the local artistic community and the Wandsworth economy as a whole. “
