The Pipes and Drums of The London Regiment's A Company (London Scottish) will tour the borough
Three public performances will be taking place at the following locations:
2.00pm Balham Community Space, Bedford Hill, (behind Sainsbury’s) SW12
3.15pm Wandsworth Southside Shopping Centre, SW18
4.30pm Putney Wharf, SW15
Reservist soldiers from the London's Infantry Territorial Army regiment, which currently has 60 serving soldiers in Afghanistan, will be accompanying the band and collecting donations for The London Regiment Welfare and Benevolent Fund.
The charity provides financial support to those members of the regiment past and present who are in need of assistance.
Cllr Edward Lister, Leader of Wandsworth Council said:
"Armed Forces Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to show our gratitude and appreciation to the armed services. I encourage everyone to come and enjoy these performances and to help us celebrate the brave men and women who risk their lives in defence of our country."
The council will also be welcoming members of the Armed Forces and their families to a private reception at the Town Hall where several guests will be presented with Veterans Badges officially recognising their service.
Veterans Badges were introduced in 2004 to promote recognition of veterans by the wider British public. They are now available to all those who have served in HM Armed Forces and application forms are available at www.veterans-uk.info
The unique badge is an enamelled, engraved, and pinned, lapel badge featuring the words “HM Armed Forces – Veteran”, which encompass the Tri-Service, Anchor, Crossed Swords and Eagle motif.
Its symbolism is intended to unite all veterans in recognising the commonality of their service, to encourage a sense of unity and community between surviving veterans and to ignite public recognition of our veterans and their continuing contribution to society.
