On Sunday September 9th dog owners in Wandsworth can get a free health check for their four-legged friends at an animal welfare roadshow being held at Edgecombe Hall estate Southfields, close to the historic Southfields pond
The council’s animal welfare team will be working with veterinary nurses from leading charity The Blue Cross to offer health MOTs to dogs plus advice on caring for the family pet.
The nurses will also be able to refer pets to Blue Cross hospitals if they require further treatment. In addition a free microchipping service is also being offered – which could prove crucial in helping to reunite owners with their pets should they go missing.
Council staff will also be giving general advice on responsible dog ownership and also the rules that people living on council owned estate need to follow if they are keeping a dog.
Wandsworth’s animal welfare manager Mark Callis said: “This is a good opportunity for people to bring their dogs along and have them given a free health check by fully qualified veterinary nurses who will be able to offer further help and advice on treatments if it’s needed.
“And we will be offering free microchipping to any pet that hasn’t already got one. It is now a legal requirement for owners to have their dogs chipped so this is a quick, easy and convenient way for people to make sure they don’t fall foul of the law.
”We will also be able to answer any questions about the dos and don’ts of owning a dog if you live on a housing estate as we are keen to encourage responsible dog ownership as much as possible.”
