ILLUMINA Debut - Sing Exquisite Music From The Feasts of All Saints & All Souls
Some of London’s finest professional Choral Singers have been brought together in a new group called, ‘ILLUMINA’. The choir will be presenting their debut concert in Putney entitled ‘Saints & Souls’, which will include works by Byrd, Stanford, Schütz, Bruckner, Lassus and Viadana. The main feature of the concert will be Tomás Luis de Victoria’s 6-part Requiem. The work was composed in 1605 and this year marks the 400th anniversary of the Spanish composer’s death.
Ross Jelf (pictured right above), who is familiar in the Putney area through his work with the community choir, Dover House Singers is the Conductor of the new group. “I feel very privileged to be directing such a fine group of singers and am really pleased we will be making our debut in Putney - a community I feel very much a part of”. It is however a long way from home for Ross who was brought up in the beachside region of the Sunshine Coast located in Queensland, Australia. He moved to London in August 2009 after being one of just two people selected worldwide in that year’s intake to study a Masters in Choral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music.
The principal aim of ILLUMINA is to bring high quality music to local communities throughout London and the UK. Joining the choir in their debut will be Martin Ford (pictured right), who is the Organist of St Martin-in-the-Fields in London.
The concert will take place in St Margaret’s Church, Putney Park Lane, Putney SW15 5HU on Saturday, November 12th at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door for £10 adults, £8 concessions and free admission for children under 16 years of age.
