Time is running out for people to nominate a coach, volunteer, sports person, club or team to be crowned a local sporting hero.
Ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, the council is preparing for this year’s Active Wandsworth Awards to showcase a bumper crop of sporting success stories.
The awards, which celebrate sport and physical activity in the borough, aim to give nominees recognition for their hard work, dedication or achievement in 2011.
The council is encouraging people to nominate their chosen talented individual, committed volunteer, dedicated coach or successful team or club for an award before the deadline passes on Friday, February 3.
Councillor Jonathan Cook, the council’s culture spokesman, said:
“With 2012 being an Olympic year for the capital, there is no better time to celebrate sporting achievement locally. These awards are designed to celebrate success across the sporting spectrum – from a young sports personality to individuals or organisations making a contribution to disability sport. I would urge anyone who knows a deserving recipient to fill in a simple nomination form.”
