School must becomes a member of London 2012 community network

The Get Set network offers schoolchildren the chance to see the world’s greatest athletes and sports stars in action when the capital hosts the Games in 2012.

Wandsworth Council is reminding any borough school interested in receiving an allocation of tickets that it must apply to join the network before December 16, 2011. Being registered with Get Set is not the same thing as being a Get Set network member.

The council’s cabinet member for education and children’s services, Councillor Kathy Tracey, said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for schools to share in the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic Games.  “I would urge them not to miss out on what will no doubt be a once in a lifetime experience for their pupils by applying to become a member using a simple online form at getset.london2012.com/

“Anyone wanting to check whether their school is already a member of the network can do so via the website.”

So far, 90 schools, including private ones, have registered for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games' (LOCOG) Get Set education programme and resources. However, only about 50 per cent will be eligible for tickets having also become Get Set network members.

In total, 125,000 tickets are on offer to schools across the capital through the Get Set network. Up to 50,000 have been provided directly by the network while an additional 75,000 have been contributed by the Mayor of London, in partnership with LOCOG.

In January, 2012, every Get Set network school will receive confirmation of the minimum number of tickets it has been allocated. Schools will also be given practical ideas and materials to help distribute tickets fairly to the most-deserving students.

The Get Set network is a special community of schools and colleges which are demonstrating a commitment to Olympic and Paralympic values by inspiring pupils of all ages to get involved in projects and activities promoting values such as friendship, respect and courage.

Members of the network also receive the right to use the London 2012 Education logo on their school/college sign, headed paper, website and newsletter – as well as being offered other exclusive opportunities including visits from Olympians and Paralympians.
